Laser Hair Removal San Diego
If you are tired of the pain and inconvenience of waxing and shaving, consider laser
hair removal at Del Mar Plastic Surgery. Any area of the body can be treated except for around the eyes. Treatments are fast and safe, and suitable for both men and women. A large area (such as a man’s back) takes only 30 minutes and is actually fairly inexpensive.
Dr. Pollack uses an Intense Pulsed Light System, or IPL, for hair removal. This works by emitting pulses of light into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat loosens the hair and disables the cells responsible for new hair growth. The treatment works best on fair skin and dark hair.
Following a treatment session, most patients will be slightly red and mildly tender in the treated area. There is no restriction on activity, and zero to minimal discomfort. Most patients require 4-6 treatments to obtain optimal results, so discounted packages are available. After each visit, noticeably fewer and finer hairs will be growing in. It’s that easy!
Del Mar Plastic Surgery serves the following communities: Del Mar, San Diego, North County, La Jolla and surrounding areas.

Ear Lobe Repair San Diego
Over the years, wearing heavy earrings or ear gauges will cause stretching of the earlobes and sometimes even tears where the earlobe was pierced. Many individuals do not realize that this can easily be repaired, and that you will be able to go back to wearing your favorite earrings again within a few months.
Dr. Pollack performs a “mini-flap” on the ear, in an L-shape pattern, by making a small incision where the former hole used to be. This procedure is performed
in the office with a small amount of local anesthesia. By repairing the ear in this way, you will avoid “notching” as the ear heals, and will be able to re-pierce the ear in about six weeks without problems. Dr. Pollack will even re-pierce the ear for you at no charge if you return to the office with an earring.
This quick fix repair can be performed on ears which are already torn all the way through or those that are just stretched. Put your clip earrings back in the drawer and consider having your ear repaired instead!

Facial Rejuvenation San Diego
Despite one’s best efforts to prevent facial aging–doing regular skin care, eating a healthy diet, and avoiding excess sun exposure–time and gravity may ultimately take it’s toll. Years ago, facelift surgery was done mostly on women over 60, but over the last 20 years, more and more women in their 40′s and 50′s are also taking advantage of new, less invasive facial surgical procedures designed to refresh and repair.
Lately, some bad celebrity facelifts have made some people nervous about having the procedure. My philosophy is that facelifts should restore YOUR youthful look, not pull everything as tight as possible!
Facelift surgery is designed to reposition tissues that have sagged as a result of aging. The facial muscles are tightened, fat is repositioned to eliminate jowls and fill in the cheeks, and excess skin is removed. Short scar, quick recovery lifts are ideal for younger patients with early facial aging. More extensive surgery is required if the signs of aging are more advanced. In either case, the scars are placed for minimal visibility and heal extremely well. Very often, facelift is combined with an eyelid lift, also called blepharoplasty, as well as a browlift to completely rejuvenate the face. The latest trend is to include fat injection into the cheek, around the eyes, and into the lips to add volume and a more youthful appearance.
Facelift surgery takes between 2 and 6 hours depending on how much is done. It is an outpatient procedure, and most patients can return to work and social functions within 7 to 10 days. Regular exercise is allowed after 3 to 4 weeks.
Call us for a consultation, and we can tailor a procedure just for you.

San Diego Breast Augmentation
Silicone implants came back on the market about 3 years ago for use in breast augmentation, and since then, the procedure is more popular than ever. Silicone implants feel and look more natural than saline implants, and extensive international research has demonstrated their safety.
Even with the difficult economic times, breast augmentation in San Diego and nationally becomes more popular every year. Women want to enhance their appearance, and with more flexible financing opportunities, the procedure is available to almost everyone. More and more of my patients want a natural look rather than the “boob job” look. Choosing the right size is a joint effort between you and me. I have my patients look at pictures of other patients and photos from magazines so that we agree on the size and proportion that you want. I use those pictures in the operating room to help select the proper implant to get the result you want.
Many patients wonder how I can tell what the breasts look like if they are laying flat on the operating table. In fact, we sit you up while you’re asleep, with your shoulders, chest, and tummy exposed, so that we can see exactly how the breasts look on your body, and then compare them to the photos.
The incisions I use are either around the lower part of the areola or under the breast. I always place the implants under the muscle which gives a more natural appearance. The surgery takes about an hour and everyone goes home afterward. Most of my patients go back to work in one week and resume exercise in 3 to 4 weeks.

San Diego Liposuction
Many of the patients I consult with for liposuction are concerned about maintaining their results. Of course, if you are considering having surgery,
it is normal to have concerns about how your body might change over time. The goal with liposuction, as with any surgery, is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and maintain your weight (within a few pounds). It is a common misunderstanding that if you have surgery on one area, you will automatically start seeing more fat somewhere else on your body. That is not the case if you don’t gain weight! Because we remove a large number of fat cells from a concentrated area, a small increase in weight will not show in that area, but it does need to go somewhere. For instance, if you have liposuction of the abdomen and you gain 5 pounds following the procedure, then you will start to notice it in your thighs, your arms, or your face. If you gain a significant amount of weight (10 pounds or more), then you certainly stand a chance of seeing your abdomen plump up again.
Liposuction is designed as a tool to shape the body and remove areas where fat is concentrated. Ideal patients are close to their target body weight, but the procedure can be performed on larger patients as well. Maintaining your body weight is the key to maintaining your results!!! Exercise will also help to firm up the skin, tone the muscles and optimize your results! Please contact our office for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Pollack.

Facial Rejuvenation San Diego
Laying the foundation for healthy, youthful skin starts with proper diet and regular skin care. However, sometimes environmental factors, such as sun, wind, and pollutants, as well as the normal effects of aging finally take their toll.
When this happens, there are several options to rejuvenate your skin and restore a more youthful appearance. The first is laser resurfacing, or a laser peel. The latest technology used at Del Mar Plastic Surgery is the Fraxel re:pair laser, a CO2 laser that safely tightens the skin, reduces or eliminates wrinkles, and accelerates collagen production, creating softer, smoother, and younger-looking skin. It also treats age spots and irregular pigmentation. The Fraxel laser procedure is performed in the office, and most patients can wear makeup and return to work in 5 to 7 days. The full effects are seen in 2 to 3 months, and with proper on-going skin care, including sunblock, can last for 4 to 5 years.
A free consult with Kristi Regina, our certified aesthetician, is a great start. She will discuss simple, effective, and affordable in-office treatments and home care products that we offer at Del Mar Plastic Surgery in San Diego.
In Part 4, we’ll discuss surgical options for facial rejuvenation.

San Diego Cosmetic Surgery
It always strikes me as odd when a patient comes to see us who has been wanting a procedure for several years but asks, “aren’t I too old to have this done?” By all means, the answer is no. If you are still healthy and active there is no reason to put off having a cosmetic procedure. While of course there are a good number of patients who choose to have surgery in their 20’s or 30’s, there are also many who seek to look and feel better well into their 70’s.
Take for instance “Jane” (name withheld). Jane is 61 years old and had a full tummy tuck 2 weeks ago. She is vibrant, healthy, and lives an active lifestyle travelling with her husband. At her post-op visit last week, when we walked in to see her, she said “I just can’t believe this is me!”
Dr. Pollack has performed surgery on patients of all ages. So if you have been contemplating making a change for a while, and your outer self doesn’t match your inner self, then you should consider coming in for a consultation. We just might surprise you with a new outlook on life!

Del Mar Plastic Surgery in San Diego
Have you ever noticed how great it makes you feel when you walk into a place and they know you by name? How often do you experience that when you go into a doctor’s office? My guess is, very rarely. In most cases, you sign in, take your clipboard and wait for an unfamiliar face to call your name.
Coming into Dr. Pollack’s office at Del Mar Plastic Surgery in San Diego, is an entirely different experience. Our staff
has been together for so many years, we are like family. Tanya, our front office coordinator has worked with us for 7 years. She will always greet you with a huge smile and make you feel welcome instantly. Our fabulous aesthetician, Kristi, has been with us for 6 years. Many of her patients followed her to our office from her previous place of employment and are still coming in today. A visit to her room is magical, and she will treat you like a princess with every skin treatment she does. I (Kate) have almost managed to reach my 15 years with Dr. Pollack, which I will celebrate in October. I love it when a patient from 10 years ago will call the office and ask for me by name—and I remember everybody, too.Very few offices have had staff for so many years who are this happy and dedicated. We don’t use a sign in sheet because we know you by name when you walk in the door and we are happy to see you. This speaks volumes about Dr. Pollack. To have such a great reputation in the community, among his peers, and ESPECIALLY his staff, makes him truly a rare gem. Kate

One of our most popular procedures lately at Del Mar Plastic Surgery has been the “tummy tuck,” or abdominoplasty. Pregnancy, weight fluctuation, and even aging creates loose abdominal muscles and skin that sometimes can’t be corrected even with the most responsible exercise and diet. Women complain about the “pooch” or bulge below the belly button, or the rolls above the belly button, especially when sitting or bending.
The most common comment I hear from my tummy tuck patients is “Wow, I should have done this a long time ago!” Many of them didn’t know that it was possible to get a flat, tight, firm tummy again with a relatively short, simple, and safe surgery. The scar is low on the tummy, and easily hidden by even the smallest bikini or panty. And best of all, unless you get pregnant or gain a lot of weight, the result is permanent!
I do tummy tucks at the Sharp Outpatient Pavilion in San Diego. Most patients go home the same day and can go back to work in about 10 days, light exercise in 2 to 3 weeks, and unrestricted activities in 6 weeks.
If you’re ready for flat abs again, call us for a free consultation.

June 9th, 2010
It’s summertime and bikini time in San Diego again! After having one, two, or even three babies, many women don’t even want to think about wearing a swimsuit, but there’s a solution: the Mommy Makeover.
Pregnancy can take it’s toll on a woman’s body, stretching out once firm muscles and tight skin, leaving a baby bulge and loose skin. Also, the breasts can be deflated, losing their pre-pregnancy perkiness, and can also end up droopy.
I have performed many Mommy Makeover procedures on women from 25 to 50 years old. A “tummy tuck,” or abdominoplasty, re-tightens the abdominal muscles and removes the excess skin and fat, leaving a flat and toned tummy. At the same time, the breasts can be rejuvenated with a breast augmentation to add more volume and, if necessary, a lift to tighten the breast skin and elevate the nipple.
The Mommy Makeover procedure can also include other procedures, such as liposuction. It is designed specifically for each patient’s needs. It can be done as an outpatient procedure, and most patients can go back to work in about 10 days.
Get your body back this summer with a San Diego Mommy Makeover.
