San Diego Cosmetic Surgery
It always strikes me as odd when a patient comes to see us who has been wanting a procedure for several years but asks, “aren’t I too old to have this done?” By all means, the answer is no. If you are still healthy and active there is no reason to put off having a cosmetic procedure. While of course there are a good number of patients who choose to have surgery in their 20’s or 30’s, there are also many who seek to look and feel better well into their 70’s.
Take for instance “Jane” (name withheld). Jane is 61 years old and had a full tummy tuck 2 weeks ago. She is vibrant, healthy, and lives an active lifestyle travelling with her husband. At her post-op visit last week, when we walked in to see her, she said “I just can’t believe this is me!”
Dr. Pollack has performed surgery on patients of all ages. So if you have been contemplating making a change for a while, and your outer self doesn’t match your inner self, then you should consider coming in for a consultation. We just might surprise you with a new outlook on life!

If I made a list of the most frequently asked questions in breast augmentation consultations, this would be at the top. I am not sure where the question originates from, but for some reason, most women seeking implant surgery are under the impression that this is the rule. My answer is always the following:
Breast implants are not designed to last for a lifetime. However, if you are not experiencing any problems, your implants are intact, you are happy with the shape and size, and would otherwise not be considering a replacement procedure, then there is no reason to undergo a surgery. Many women can live with the same implants for 20 or more years. I kept my first pair of implants (silicone gel) for 14 years before I decided to replace them. I only chose to replace them because I wanted to be a little larger.
I don’t know where the 10 year implication started, but I have a feeling that it has to do with the implant companies and their warranties. Both implant manufacturers, Allergan and Mentor, guarantee their implants for a lifetime. If you experience a rupture, they will replace that implant (sometimes both) at no charge. You are responsible for surgeon and OR fees. Up to 10 years, they will provide some financial assistance towards your surgery, unless you have purchased an extended warranty which goes beyond 10 years.
Make sure to always discuss your concerns openly with your doctor and his consultant. If you choose to have augmentation surgery, it is helpful if you save your implant information. You may be eligible for assistance in the event of a rupture.
Most importantly, if you aren’t sure, just ask. Your doctor should be willing to offer you an exam at any time.
